NASA: one of the Jupiter moons may be viable
Europe, one of the Jupiter moons may have necessary chemicals to support life.
According to AOL websites (of websites affiliated with the Independent newspaper), NASA -the US space agency- has announced that according to a new study, the amount of hydrogen and oxygen on this small moon is comparable with their combining at the surface of Earth. This means that the main structure of life could exist there. The surface Europe is covered by ice. It is guessed that salty ocean be under this ice surface. This study was conducted by NASA laboratory, and to estimate the amount of chemicals in this planet, scientists examined the effect of salt water of oceans on its rocks surface. In this phenomenon –that are occurred on earth's surface- salty water permeates to the holes of rocks and hydrogen is released by composition of salts and chemicals into the rock. In this study that includes complex formulas, and based on previous knowledge that was existed from Europe, scientists had tried to guess the hydrogen amount by studying the rock fracture of this planet surface and the formation of new rocks.
But to estimate the amount of available oxygen, scientists studied the planet's surface. They found that the emitted radiation from the Jupiter caused to separation the components of icy water molecules and releasing the oxygen on it.
Scientists found that the amount of oxygen in this planet is ten times more than hydrogen that is almost equal to the Earth's condition.
One of the important achievements of this new discovery is helping to scientists to better understand this moon of Jupiter and its potential viability.
NASA is going to send a spacecraft to Europe in the early stages of construction. The hope is that in mid-2020, this spacecraft will pass through near of this small moon and send high quality photographs to scientists.
